Great Danes from Lots of Places
1)Blame it all on our roots, they came here in boats,
From the land that rose from the sea.
Land of Egtved girl, Graubelle Man, The Little Mermaid of Langelinie.
You could walk from the house, into the barn without a look at the sky.
Lunch on rugbrod and cheese, sip Aalborg Akvavit, Salmon was Seafood delight.
Chorus
We’re lots of Danes from lots of places
Schnapps and a beer will put a smile on our faces.
Nowhere, we’d rather be, than in the company.
Of the ones who know how our clan did grow
There’s a rich history of how we came to be
These lots of Danes, from lots of places
2)It’s hard to name names, there’s lots of great Danes
But there’s three we really hold dear.
Old uncle Niels, Maren Marie, and dear Ella Sofie
Left home in their teens, in search of a dream
Leaving all they had left behind.
From Gronhoj, Instrup to the shores of this land
Were they brave or out of their mind?
Chorus:
3)How would they know, this family would grow,
From those teens and these years in between
From Iowa acres, shore to shore, and back to where it began.
The ties are strong and we’re holden on
To the life of those Iowa Danes
Their life is the song, we’re all a verse
Let’s celebrate the refrain.
Chorus:
Interlude: Over the last 100 plus years, my oh my, how our family has
grown. From Nielsen, to Gregersen, to Miles, to:
4) Here we are with Danes in Iowa, A land of corn, hay, and beans
Here we are a family, loving life and chasing dreams.
Here we are celebrating those, who left the land of the Danes,
To turn the soil of this land, to the gold of green,
Following their life’s dream
Chorus:
5)Our roots have grown deep Precious memories we’ll keep
Our faith and heritage hold us strong
We cling to the hope our ancestors saw here
And our life in this family goes on
May our dear Lord above, hold us close in His love
Grant us peace, safe in His arms
Joy for our journey, laughter in life, And love for all of mankind
The Outlaws
(Mick Swanson’s outlaws. Clayt, Garny, Bill, Don)
Come listen to our song my friends, we have a tale to tell
Of 4 young brassy outlaw types and we do know them well
Who over 40 years ago did wander through this life,
Came upon some Swanson girls, and took em for their wives.
Chorus:
Outlaws we are, outlaws we’ll be
I still love that Swanson girl.
-
I think she still loves me
-
2)I hope she still loves me
-
3) I know she still loves me
Now Clayt he did marry Jan, a teenage beauty queen,
And Gaff he made a child bride of the innocent Joleen.
Bill and sweet Lorraine did wed to make a life of it,
Don took Phyl a travelin, and found glass slippers fit.
Chorus: 2
Time did travel on for them, each went their separate ways.
And with their loving Swanson bride a family did raise.
At time they get to reminisce, a good ole outlaws do,
Put the next log up on top and pass another brew.
Chorus: 3
As time has passed we’ve slowed a bit, our get up and go done went
And all this while we’ve kept our wit, our vigor is not spent.
But through the years, uphill and down
One thing remains true
Precious are our Swanson girls,
We’re still in love with you.
Final Chorus:
Outlaws we are, outlaws we’ll be,
With our loving Swanson brides,
We are family.
Outlaws we are, Outlaws we’ll be,
With our loving Swanson brides,
We are family.
